FOR SOME COUPLES, COMMITMENT IS ENOUGH

President Barack Obama is the first president in American history to openly support gay marriage, a hot topic issue that has left the nation divided.

In 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage. Since then, nine other states have legalized same-sex marriage including Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and Washington. As Obama prepares to take office for a second term, he faces both praise and criticism for his support of the LGBTQ community.

We traveled to Virginia to meet with long time partners Paul Pisano and Bill Holland. They have been together more than 25 years and recently had a commitment ceremony. They spoke to us about their relationship and why they decided not to get legally married.
